Acounta is a multitalented Canadian artist specialising in eccentric and manic dance music. Acounta is a member of Tsundere Fan Club and Victoria based collective BetterTogether, and also makes music using the side projects Cloneaid and Bee Oil.

Where did you grow up and where are you based now?
<acounta>
I grew up in Victoria, and currently live in Vancouver (Canada).

How did you get into making music?
<acounta>
I’ve been fascinated by computer-created music since I was a young child. The first DAW I discovered was Mario Paint (for PC) when I was searching the internet for mario games that I could install on my dad’s work computer.

What inspires the themes in your music?

The themes in my music usually have a lot to do with the music i’m consuming at the time of production.

How does creating art help you?
<acounta>
Above all else, creating art makes me feel happy and useful.
<CO>
How has connecting to people online influenced you?
<acounta>
Connecting to people online has played a great part in the construction of my consumption networks for music. Many of the artists I regularly listen to currently are friends, or friends of friends. From a production standpoint, connecting with people online has allowed me to understand how other artists I admire create their art.

What is the significance of the music you included in your mix for us?
<acounta>
This mix is special to me because it includes various contrasting styles I have listened to over the past few years. It also acts as a transitional mix for two of my own projects (acounta and Bee Oil).
